Images, whether still or moving, are a ubiquitous and indispensable part of the technology age. As for the great Space adventure, it deserves to be immortalised from every angle

As an adventure or dream recorded for posterity, or for the incredible possibilities it represents.  From a "close-up of the nuts and bolts" to a set of satellite images, or a record of the launcher's lift-off, all the photos taken during a campaign have a specific role and significance.

Technical, safety, media or artistic issues. With photos, video, computer graphics or in 3D. At CSG, image professionals follow all aspects of daily life on the Base in order to respond to every kind of request.  At the end of the launch chain, as if by mirror effect, the Spot and Envisat satellites transmit their images back to the SEAS antenna in Montabo.

The Optical/video unit oversees production and distribution of images in real time or for later delivery to satellite customers, Arianespace, CSG and ESA for every Ariane 5 campaign, from the arrival of the satellites, through final installation and lift-off, until the launcher is no longer visible from Kourou.  The service is manned by 34 employees of the IEC/Sarvis consortium (holders of the industrial contract) and three CNES staff members, and includes five photographers, three cameramen/editors and four computer graphics specialists.  Depending on the processing required and the urgency of the request, these images may pass through the hands of several people to respond to the many demands of the Base.
