ARABSAT 5A COMS

Description of Ariane 5 payload scheduled by end of June 2010

  

 

ARABSAT 5A is a telecommunication satellite built by EADS Astrium for  Arabsat. This spacecraft is designed to provide a large range of satellite communication services including television backhauling and broadcasting, telephony and internet over sub-Saharan Africa, the North-Africa and Middle East region and beyond. ARABSAT 5A will operate with 24 transponders in Ku-band and 26 in C-band. It has a double deployable antenna system on each side. The satellite power in early life is 12 kW.

Total mass at launch: 4875 kg

COMS is a South Korean multi-mission spacecraft developed by EADS Astrium, being the first Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI, Korean space agency) geostationary satellite.

COMS is fitted with payloads for meteorology applications, ocean observation and telecommunications, which will be operated from the South Korean in Ka-band.

The satellite power is 2,5 kW

Orbital position : 128.2 East

Total mass at launch : 2475 kg

Operation lifetime: 8 years
