Successful launch for HELIOS 2B

Ariane 5G lift off on  18/12/2009

HELIOS 2B is in orbit

 

ARIANE 5 launched successfully the satellite of observation HELIOS 2B since the Guiana Space Centre, Europe Spaceport, in Kourou, French Guiana: at 1:26PM, Kourou time, on Friday December 18, 2009

At the end of a 59 minutes and 20 seconds flight, the launcher injected the satellite HELIOS 2B with precision on a sunsynchronous polar orbit.

 

It was the 49th launch of an ARIANE 5, 7th in 2009 and the 35th success in a row.

 

 

For European Defense

 

HELIOS 2B was the 33rd military payload entrusted to the European launcher. ARIANE made it possible to cover the whole of the missions necessary to the needs for European Defense:

Observation with HELIOS 1A in 1995, HELIOS 1B in 1999 and HELIOS 2A in 2004,

Telecommunications with Syracuse I, II and III (France), Sicral 1 (Italy), Skynet 4 and 5 (the United Kingdom), Hispasat 1A, 1B and Spainsat (Spain), Türksat 1A, 1B,1Cand Eurasiasat 1 (Turkey), ComsatBw-1 (Germany).
