EAP test bench

Test bench and flame trench filled with water

Above the granite flame trench, the Solid Propellant Test Bench (BEAP – Banc d’Essai des Accélérateurs à Poudre) is used for testing specimens of solid propellant boosters such as the P80 or Arta (Ariane accompaniment, research and technologies programme). The site, which is little used is at some distance, surrounded by the Guianese vegetation.

* Pollution:

 - risk of explosion, fire

 - rejection of pollutant effluents consisting of alumina and hydrochloric gas

 - production and storage of dangerous and ordinary vegetable waste

* The arrangements fall under the Environment Measurement Plan (PME)

- treatment and analysis of water used to drench the flame trench, before it is returned to the

  natural environment

- monitoring of dangerous waste

- measurements of the impact of tests on the environment, similar to those for Ariane 5
