Analysis and general forecasting equipment

On a daily basis, Météo-France provides the CSG weather station with a set of measurements, bulletins and above all data computed by numerical weather forecasting models (the French Arpege and European CEPMMT models).

A workstation known as Synergie allows these data to be consulted interactively, thus enabling 24-, 48- or 72-hour weather forecasts to be generated for operational activities at CSG.  This station, which is enriched with data from Météo-France, receives observations taken on the ground, at altitude and from satellites.  As Kourou is located at 52° West, the latter mainly come from the GOES satellite, positioned at 75° West, and Météosat, which is not so well positioned (at 0° West).  In particular, these geostationary meteorological satellites enable the position and evolution of the InterTropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) to be visualised.  The most usable images are those received from GOES, once Météo-France has processed them by merging them where possible with data from Météosat.  These images cover the entire intertropical Atlantic, stretching from Latin America to Africa.
