General coordination of launch operations

The main mission of CNES at the CSG is to design and direct operations for final preparation of satellites, in-flight tracking and the acquisition of data from launchers, including range safety, security and protection of life and property both on the ground and in-flight.

CNES has to make a sustained effort to continually adapt to changes in the number of launches, to guarantee the availability of operational facilities and to reduce costs. In order to achieve these goals, it has to :

  • increase the performance and reliability of systems while reducing their maintenance and operating costs and integrating new technologies in particular for computing and telecommunications systems;
  • anticipate and respond to new needs for launchers and satellites by ensuring that the customer (the Arianespace operator and manufacturers responsible for satellites) are kept constantly in mind;
  • adapt common base infrastructures for housing new launchers;
  • reduce operating expenses.
